If you are looking for accommodation then we would suggest that
the best option is to go to a hostel and get a tour of the facilities.
Make sure that everything works before handing over your cash. Often we have found
that fans did not work or functioned with an irritating noise.
You will also find that many places will cost the same
but provide a different quality room.
However we found that there are times you can't drop
buy and check out the room before you buy. For instance if you are
travelling all day from one place to the next. Only to arrive in town at 12am and
all the hostels are taken. We felt there was a need for a website that allowed us
to book a hostel room in advance (something most hostels wont do over the phone).
We also found that it is much easier to book a hostel than phone each hostel individually.
